This was the original, and definitely the hardest megaman game in the series. And its a classic, because it was the beginning of what would become one of the most prolific series ever. This game set the standard for all megaman games as well. There was a set number of robot masters that you had to defeat before advancing to the final stages. And each boss has a weakness to a certain weapon. There aren't the traditional 8 robot masters though because of memory issues in those old carts, but you get to see the other two robot masters in the PSP remake, Megaman Powered Up. And something that didn't stick was the point system, which was really pointless. Anyway, as I said before, this is one of the hardest Megaman games. Some of the stages will take you several try's just to learn the patterns, and then several more lives to beat the robot master at the end. And most of the robot masters are difficult, even with right weapon. And then, the hardest part are the Dr. Wily stages after you defeat the 6 robot masters. The yellow devil at the very end of the first stage is by far the hardest part of the game, and thats saying a lot for a game that is already challenging. This game is not for the feint at heart. Some bad parts about the game. A lot of the non elemental mini boss stages look very similar. Also, though some of the music is catchy, the soundtrack isn't the best in the series. Also, its kind of stupid that the stages very from really hard to rather easy. They should have evened them out. And also, Having to go to Elecman's stage to get that "Magnet beam" thing is rather bothersome. Overall, this game is pretty good. It's definitely not the best in the series, but definitely not a game you want to overlook. The graphics are pretty good, the sound is good, and its a solid Megaman game. Its worth picking up if your a fan of the series. |

This is the first true Megaman game. It has the 8 robot masters, each with their own unique power, followed by some awesome Dr. Wily Stages. This is debatably the best megaman game in the series. It has all the basic game play elements from the previous game, and some amazing power ups. This is the easiest of the original Megaman games. All of the stages and robot masters are very simple to pass with out loosing many lives. Even the Dr. Wily stages aren't too difficult compared to the first Megaman game. All of the stages are colorful and very unique, and all of the music is awesome. This game definitely has some of the best music in the series. In this game your introduced to 3 different power ups that you gain by beating certain levels. This made for some unique challenges in the later levels, and could be used to get energy tanks in the robot master stages. This was a large improvement over the previous game where you had to have a certain weapon in order to get it from some other robot masters stage. Overall, this is a must have game for both a Megaman fan, and anyone with a Nintendo. Every part of this game makes it a true classic. My only complaint is that its some times too easy. |

Megaman 3 is debatably the best game in the series. It has everything that Megaman 2 has, and more. This was the first game where Megaman had the ability to slide, which presented some new challenges in the level design. Unlike Megaman 2 though, This game is a bit more difficult. The robot master stages and robot masters themselves will definitely give you a headache if you don't know what your doing. Geminiman is definitely the hardest boss in this game. You also get to learn a little bit about Protoman in this game. And the Dr. Wily stages are also really challenging, with some great boss fights. The music in this game is awesome. Its on par, if not better then Megaman 2s soundtrack. The into theme alone is just awesome. Also, the graphics, like every other Megaman game, are awesome. All of the stages are unique and present different challenges. And the overall difficulty of this game makes it a bit more rewarding when you complete the game. Truly, this is one of the best games in the series. The music, gameplay, and challenge makes it an epic among its other titles. This is a must have for any serious Megaman fan. |

Megaman 4 is where the series really took a nose dive. The robot masters were pretty boring, the music was boring, and the game was as hard as the original one... if not harder. This is however the first Megaman game where you get a very useful upgrade, the Charge Cannon! To start, they really raised the bar on how difficult this game was. Everything from levels to robot masters, and especially the Wily stages are just killer. This makes it a very difficult and stressful game to sit through and play, which really doesn't make it replayable. The robot masters aren't horrible, but you can see that they really started scrapping their brains trying to come up with new ones. And the music is probably the worse out of the original 6. They were trying to make it more like the music from Megaman 2, but made it way too mellow. There are almost no tunes that I find my self humming after playing this game. And, something that is new to the series, There are 2 castles that you have to battle through; Dr. Cossack, and Dr. Wily's! This wouldn't be bad in the previous 2 Megaman games (even though Megaman 3 might as well have had 2 castles), but when its Megaman 4, it just makes the game harder and more boring to play through. Overall, this is probably the second worse in the original series. It is a Megaman game though, and the gameplay its self is very good as always. The levels look beautiful as always too. But it really wasn't up to par with the other Megaman games, and was just a big let down. |

This Megaman game really did a good job in bringing it back to what made the game good. Its a little easier then Megaman 3, but its a satisfying game overall. The main improvement in this game over the previous Megaman is the stage music. There area plenty of good tunes in this game, though still not up to par with Megaman 2 and 3 music. the Darkman stage music is great, as well as Waveman's stage. The levels and bosses are roughly the same difficulty. You will have some trouble on both, but one isn't any harder then the other. This game isn't that challenging though. You will definitely die and it might take you a few times to get through some parts, but there are no parts that will really challenge you that much. The robot masters and end game bosses are all a little challenging, but can easily be learned in 1 or 2 lives. This game also introduces Beat, the lovable bird who will attack anything and everything on the screen. You get him by collecting letters throughout each level and spelling your own name. He is pretty useful for those rooms with enemies all around you. He is also pretty useful on some bosses. He runs out of juice pretty fast though. Some annoying things, There are way to many power ups in this game. I maxed out my energy tanks rather quickly and there are a lot of energy and weapon recharge tanks from each enemy. I feel that it just made the game rather easy when it could have been a lot more challenging. Overall though, this is a Megaman game worth playing through and owning. Its not the best in the series, but it definitely lives up to its name. |

This Megaman game gave me some mixed reactions. Its very much like the previous game, but with some improvements, it seems to be torn between wanting to be really hard, or stupid easy. The robot master levels in this game are very challenging. It is likely that you will be continuing at least once per stage if its your first time playing through the game. But then, the robot masters themselves are really easy. I would find myself easily defeating them all with my Buster gun and suffering little to no damage. This game has the easiest robot masters to defeat by far. Tomahawk man is the only one who will really give you any trouble. This isn't that horrible though, I just wish the difficulty could be more even. Beat also makes a return in this game. You get him by taking alternate routs through some of the robot master stages and beating the boss. You need to spell out Beats name with the letters (B E A T). He can be just as useful in this game, but there aren't many places that you can really use him. There is also a secret item that Protoman shows up to give you that recharges your lowest weapon tank when you get those weapon rechargers without having one of your special weapons equipped. This was such a handy improvement that it found its way into most of the later Megaman games. Another thing that I really liked were the new Rush Adaptations. You wouldn't have to recharge them every time you used them, but instead, you would use them like your normal buster, or a super jump. This made it so that you could use rush anywhere and as often as you wanted in a level. The music in this Megaman game was great. I think some of the better music in the series comes from this game. Its very easy to get some of these tunes stuck in your head. It still doesn't really stack up to Megaman 2 and 3 music though. The graphics in this game are also the best out of all the NES Megaman's. Likely because it was a later NES title and they were able to cram a lot more memory into the game. Overall, this is another great Megaman game. I didn't enjoy it as much as Megaman 5, but it really isn't that far behind. Everything in this game is about right, except for the fluctuating difficulty. Definitely a Megaman worth playing and owning. |

After 10 years of silence from the series last console release (Rockman and Forte for Super Famicom) and 15 years since it's last appearance on the NES, Megaman makes its triumphant return to its 8 bit roots. Though this game isn't for the NES, I felt that i should give it a review due to its 8 bit feel. If you didn't know any better, you could swear that this game has always been on the NES. Anyway, on to the review. Megaman 9 is hard. I know the other Megaman games are also pretty challenging and will give you a rough time, but this one really takes the cake. Its a Megaman game designed for the kids that played the original game, and are now grown up enough to take on a bigger challenge. But, this game isn't a cheep sort of hard. Its just really well thought out level design, and tough boss patters that make this game challenging. All of the levels are learnable, but you will definitely be dying several times over before you beat any of the levels. Another thing that makes this game challenging is that you don't have your slide or charge attack anymore. Apparently Megaman forgot how to fight during his long holiday. So that means that you have to rely heavily on jumping and making precise shots. Fortunately, the robot master upgrades are pretty useful and will help you out in a lot of stages, but there are a lot of times when a slide would be useful. The music in this game is also awesome. I would say its about Megaman 6 quality, and all of the tunes get stuck in your head pretty easily. And the cut scenes are done in the classic Megaman style which really brings you back. They also implement elements that were applied after the classic NES series. Like they implemented Auto's shop, where you can go and buy E tanks, extra guys, and other miscellaneous things that help you through the game. This means that enemies drop Bolts too (the currency used in Auto's Shop). This is nice because it gives you the chance to stalk up on items before hitting the Dr. Wily stages. Overall, I was very satisfied with this game. It's very challenging, yet satisfying. It is one huge nostalgia trip that was very well executed. This is definitely one of the better Megaman games in the series. Download it if you have one of the 3 consoles its available on. Its only $9.99 (USD)! |

Metroid was the first successful nonlinear game to be released on the NES. The point of the game is to explore the world, pick up items and power ups, and finding the 2 minibosses that you have to kill to move on to the Mother Brain. The music in Metroid is great. You will likely be humming the tunes after beating the game. The graphics in this game aren’t the best, but most games during that time didn’t have amazing graphics. The hardest part about this game is figuring out where your suppose to go. Some secret passages are just next to impossible to find on your own. It really helps if you have a map, or even a friend who has played through the game. Odds are, you will constantly be lost the first time though. But once you beat it, the game is really easy, and actually fun to explore the game even further. It’s also allot of fun learning the wall jump trick and explore sections of the game that aren’t normally accessible. The exploration of the map is probably where this game is the most successful. Fun game, challenging boss fight, and exploration make this one of the better games in the NES library. Check it out if you haven’t yet. |
