F: Fester's Quest

Developer: Sunsoft
Game Type: Action/Adventure
Difficulty: Very Hard

This is a horrible game. Absolutely horrible! Festers quest is much like the parts of Blaster Master where your out of your car exploring the small rooms looking for the boss. Except in this game, your much slower, and your gun dose absolutely nothing.

Here is a small breakdown of why this game is so bad. You really have no clue where you are suppose to go at first. You try to enter homes and go underground, but you can’t enter or see anything. Your gun waves and if your positioned correctly, will completely avoid the enemy your trying to kill.

Another reason is that enemies constantly respawn even if you are standing in one area. You constantly have to clear them, which tends to be a pain. And last, but definitely not least, your gun is absolutely useless in tight corridors. You will shoot it and it will wave right into the wall. This means that your 2 powers that you start out with will be gone within seconds if there is one of those frogs chasing you.

The only redeeming quality of this game is the music. The NES rendition of the Addams family theme sounds great and the level music isn’t half bad. But the game its self is just horrible. Avoid it at all costs. Only get it if someone pays you to take it from them. Then proceed to burn, bury, and urinate on its desecrated remains.

Friday the 13th, A game based off of the popular horror movie series featuring the famous hockey mask toting, machete branding, Jason Voorhees. You play as 6 camp counselors as you explore Crystal Lake, finding clues, and run from Jason.

The hardest part of this game is figuring out what to do. You start out the game with a single hint, "Light the Fireplaces." Aside from that, you don’t have much to go on. There are other clues hidden through out the grounds hidden in cabins, but it’s not easy to find.

Each character starts out with this stupid rock weapon that sort of arches. So it is essential to duck in order to hit your target. Until you get the knife at least. You also will be able to get a few other weapons, but only later in the game. One of which is required to kill Jason. Items like a lighter, weapons upgrade, keys, and potions are obtained randomly in the over world. This makes it hard to farm items. Also, the music is horribly monotones.

Navigating Crystal Lake can be rather irritating. It’s hard to understand how the map works at first; however, this will only last as long as it takes you to figure it out. Also the cabins are a total pain to explore, mainly because it’s in the first person. There are 2 basic cabin layouts though, so you can figure them out pretty fast.

The graphics are pretty bad. All of the characters are the same sprite, only re-colored. You also spend a majority of the time running around the over world and killing the same generic zombie enemy. You also occasionally get a bird or wolf after you. Very rarely do you ever actually get to fight Jason himself. And if you happen to die on Jason with one of your characters, you have to start acquiring items all over again.

Truly, the most horrifying part of this game is actually playing it, and not the tension built up at the thought of Jason stalking you. This game is playable, and actually can be beat in 4 minutes if you know the tricks to the game. This game is playable, though it will probably loose your interest in a few minutes. Just stick to the films. They are far more entertaining.
